A unique combination of industry experience and deep knowledge of computer science. Splight was founded in 2021 by a group of colleagues working in the utility sector. Frustrated by the issue of grid congestion, the resulting curtailment of clean energy, and the adverse impact on interconnection queues, they began exploring ways to unlock the grid’s potential. Their solution was a revolutionary advanced transmission technology: a 21st century operating system for a 20th century machine, made possible by various advancements in telecommunications, computing, and renewable energy over recent decades.

Today, Splight is dedicated to solving the grid’s toughest challenges. By combining innovation with practical expertise, the company is enabling a future where renewable energy flows freely, grid bottlenecks are eliminated, and new renewable and large load projects connect seamlessly to the existing power network. At Splight, the goal isn’t just to imagine a better grid it’s to build it. Commercially trusted by transmission owners, generators, large loads developers and system operators worldwide.

WHAT ARE FAST-RESPONDING RELIABILTY ASSETS

Fast-Responding Reliability Assets are grid-connected resources capable of responding to real-time grid conditions, disturbances, and failures quickly enough to be trusted as dependable sources of grid reliability, provided they are coordinated and controlled with the right technology and intelligence.

LNG / Gas Power Plants: Can ramp output up or down within minutes, making them strong candidates for reliability services. With smart controls, they can respond to frequency deviations and voltage events while maintaining baseload or peaking roles.

Renewables (Solar & Wind): Traditionally considered unpredictable, but with advanced forecasting and control technology, they can provide fast curtailment, ramp-down responses, and even synthetic inertia. Their reliability value is unlocked through intelligent coordination.

Data Centers: Massive, controllable loads that can shift consumption, activate backup generation (diesel or battery UPS), or participate in demand response programs, all within seconds to minutes when properly integrated with grid signals.

Large Industrial & Commercial Loads: Factories, refineries, water treatment plants, and other heavy consumers can shed or shift load rapidly. As a class, these represent enormous latent flexibility that remains largely untapped without the right coordination layer.

Batteries (BESS): The fastest-responding asset class, capable of injecting or absorbing power in milliseconds. Highly versatile across frequency regulation, voltage support, and emergency backup, their full value is realized through intelligent dispatch and grid awareness.

Other Grid-Connected Equipment: Includes flywheels, capacitor banks, STATCOMs, synchronous condensers, and smart inverters. These devices provide reactive power, voltage stability, and inertia support, and are essential components of a fully coordinated reliability stack.
